What is External Wall Insulation
External Wall Insulation (EWI) is a popular upgrade for solid-wall properties in the UK because it increases energy efficiency while protecting the building structure and improving the look of the property by offering a number of decorative finishes.
An EWI system is made up of a number of different layers (these can be seen in the diagram below). The insulation boards are either made of EPS or mineral wool slabs, both of which have excellent insulating factors. Whether using EPS or mineral wool slabs you can get different size boards, some being as thin as 20mm and some being as big as 120mm. The thicker the board the higher the thermal value. Many factors impact the type of board you can use on your property. There isn't a set answer to which one is best 'thickness' in general. Each property needs to be surveyed prior by one of our trained team.

EWI systems can be finished in either a silicone or acrylic textured finish but also offer a brick effect finish as well. This can completely transform the appearance of a property. This can modernise older buildings and increase kerb appeal.
